Favorite times at Kananaskis
Two things come to mind for me. Firstly, I love the spring time for so many reasons. Mother nature provides us new sights, sounds and smells. The grass begins turning green, leaves budding on trees, contrasting colors of blue skies and snowcapped mountains, and avalanches thundering down the face of Mt. Kidd are all signs spring is upon us in Kananaskis. Operationally there is a buzz of activity with product and staff arriving onsite and the anticipation of a new season. The second thing that comes to mind was the G8 in 2002 because it was such a unique opportunity. It was an honour to showcase Kananaskis and meet a number of the world leaders. It was also fascinating to be a small part of the behind the scenes planning and coordination of such an important event.

Thoughts about the restoration
We always believed the golf courses held a special place in the hearts and minds of many guests and staff but it wasn’t until the flood occurred that we truly learned the depth of how much.  Kananaskis Country Golf Course is a part of our Province’s history. It has been a place for friends and families to connect, and over the years our staff have reminded us that they built some of the strongest friendships of their lives while working here.  Working at the golf course and living in Kananaskis since 1998 has been a truly rewarding experience for myself and my family and I am honored to be a part of the Restoration and the historical significance that goes along with it.

Favorite times at Kananaskis
My favorite time out here is easily first thing in the morning.  I love being around the golf course, seeing the sun come up, and being a part of our early team meetings to discuss everyone’s responsibilities for the day.  Early on, there is nothing quite like seeing dew on the course, the smell of fresh cut grass, and doing a tour of both Kidd and Lorette to see the courses before a day filled with play.

Thoughts about the restoration
I had always wanted to be a part of a golf course construction project as a Superintendent.  Kananaskis has been a huge part of my life and so to have the opportunity to bring this special place back is an honor.  My whole golf career has been here, so to have the chance to restore it, bring the courses back to what they were and hopefully even better is something that I take very seriously.  I can’t wait to get started with the construction so that we can get back to what we all love to do out here.  Create a special environment for people to have fun together while playing golf in a spectacular venue on well-maintained golf courses.

Favorite Memory to date at Kananaskis
I have two memories that are tied for 1st place! The first is playing out here for the first time with my wife and our two boys once they were old enough to play the full 18 holes. I am not sure who was more excited about it, me or the boys because it was like a graduation for them into playing what they called “real golf”. The second was having an opportunity to be a part of the G8 summit in 2002. While it was an incredible honor to get to play golf with Prime Minister Chretien and meet President Bush, the neatest experience for me was getting to know the people behind the scenes. This included President Bush’s helicopter pilots, the secret service, and the personalities who organized the G8 summit.

Thoughts about the Restoration
Honored to be a part of such an important project for the Kananaskis Valley and the province of Alberta. After the flood in 2013, I saw first-hand how much this facility means to so many people from all over the world. Thousands came out to visit, mourn, and see the damage for themselves, while even more people that couldn’t get out to Kananaskis called, emailed, or reached out via Social Media to express their sadness. To be a part of the team that gets to restore these two magnificent golf courses that obviously mean so much to both golfers and non-golfers alike is a responsibility that we all take very seriously. I can’t wait…
