It’s funny about time

It’s funny about time

It’s funny about time. Sometimes it flies. Occasionally it crawls. While other times it seems to do a bit of both. Take the epic flood in Southern Alberta in June of 2013 for example. In some ways, it feels like it happened two days ago, while in other ways it seems like a lifetime ago. Here we are close to three years since the most significant natural disaster in Canadian history and we find ourselves excited about the impending start date of the restoration project that will bring Kananaskis Country Golf Course back to our supporters from Alberta and across the world!

The project, guided by the collaborative efforts of Kan-Alta Golf Management and Architect Gary Browning, will be a restoration of all 36 holes over the next two years in the hopes of being ready for play in 2018. As soon as Mother Nature gives us the green light this spring, we will have our team mobilized and ready to take on the awesome responsibility of bringing life back to the Mt. Kidd and Mt. Lorette golf courses so that they can be enjoyed by many generations to come!

Throughout the next two years, we wanted to create many avenues for you to be able to stay on top of how the restoration is going. We will bring you images, interviews, video, and other information on a bi-weekly basis to help you stay on top of the progress being made on your golf courses. In doing so, you will have the ability to be introduced to the who, what, where, why, and how of all of the different phases of golf course construction during this project.

There will be many ways to get the information from us including:

  1. Facebook posts
  2. Twitter posts
  3. Instagram posts
  4. Joining our email list and receiving newsletters bi-weekly. If you haven’t signed up for the newsletter updates you can do so here.
  5. Our newly updated website that will have regularly updated images, video, and blogs.

In talking with so many of our supporters over the last three years since the flood, the one constant message we kept hearing was your desire to stay in the loop with how the project is going. It is important to us that we provide the means for all of you to experience this journey with us!!

I cannot express how shocked and sadden I was when I heard the news of the devastation of the Flood of 2013. I had the privilege to golf at Kananaskis back in the summer of 2000, as a raw cadet just learning the game, having pick up the clubs for the first time just a few weeks prior. It left me with such an impression that I fell in love with the game during that faithful visit. I can still remember the wind, but boy was it gorgeous!
I didn’t have the chance to return until 2013, only to find out what happened. I was devastated. There was no indications if the course would ever open again. I am now ecstatic to hear that, like the Phoenix, it will rise up from the ashes and be restored to its glory. I look forward with unbearing anticipation, just like a 5 year old on Christmas eve, to be able to walk once more, on one of my favorite playground in the world! Thank you for your updates, Best of Luck and G-speed!

Patrick thank you so much for your amazing note that you have left!! To hear amazing stories like the one you have expressed so eloquently here helps to fuel our fire to keep on the quest of making things the best that they can be with both the course and our operations. We consider ourselves very lucky to get to spend our lives in such a special part of the world. Even more lucky to get to spend it around people like yourself who have the perfect perspective about such a magical and important place! Thanks so much Patrick and see you in 2018!
