Roger Penner, Golfer, 1983-Present
“I have been fortunate to have golfed at Kananaskis many times, commencing shortly after it opened. I have been part of golf buddies’ weekend trips, corporate tournaments and regular green fee play spanning 30 years or more. Every golf game there is memorable. There is no doubt that once you visit, you will go back again and again.
Upon hearing the news about reopening, I was elated. The devastation inflicted by the flood was enormous and made the task of rebuilding seem daunting, but to not reopen would have cost Alberta one of its finest crown jewels. I am grateful that the people making the decision had the foresight to recognise that reopening was very important to many Albertans and to our tourism industry. The cost of rebuilding will be totally overshadowed by the enjoyment that thousands of Albertans and others will have by visiting for many decades to come. It is something that every Albertan can be very proud of. It will continue to stand as a symbol and showcase of our majestic province and its beauty.”
